Empowering Rural Uganda Through Economic Development

Economic Development is changing lives

Uplifting Communities Through Vocational Training and Self-Reliance

At Uganda Counseling and Support Services (UCSS), economic empowerment is at the heart of lasting transformation. We believe that breaking the cycle of poverty begins with equipping individuals with the tools they need to thrive—skills, confidence, and community. Through our Economic Development Groups (EDGs), we’re helping families across rural Uganda become self-sufficient, financially literate, and spiritually uplifted.

These community-based programs provide vocational training, entrepreneurship education, savings groups, and income-generating opportunities, with a special focus on empowering women and youth—the pillars of every thriving society.

What Are Economic Development Groups?

UCSS Economic Development Groups are community-led initiatives designed to promote financial independence and dignity. Participants are grouped by location and trained in areas such as:

  • Tailoring and sewing

  • Bricklaying and construction

  • Hairdressing

  • Agriculture and animal husbandry

  • Water well drilling and maintenance

  • Jewelry and crafts making

  • Financial literacy and small business management

  • Computer literacy

In each group, members not only learn practical, income-generating skills—they also participate in Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) that help them save, borrow, and invest in their futures.
