Economic Development

The economic development department has continued to grow and expand and currently has 53 groups totaling 1335 members. These groups have various focuses including agriculture and farming, business associations and tailoring and are helping communities become self sufficient and productive.

Achievements

  • Each district has various groups that include bee keeping, associations, trade groups, tailoring groups, farming groups, goat keeping, cattle, poultry, piggery, crop growing, and crafting, youth.
  • Tailoring and craft groups make items such as necklaces and bags that they can sell
  • Leadership classes, meetings, and training have helped contribute to the growth and productivity of these groups
  • Students are being integrated into the program so that they have options for economic trades after completing school
  • Agricultural groups are helping families and communities become self-sufficient

Challenges

  • Lack of transportation makes it difficult to get between locations and for groups to get their products where they need to be
  • Resources are needed to get the groups started in new locations

Future Plans

  • We plan to open a market to sell products, produce and crafts from the groups
  • We would like to find a way to get more reliable transportation
  • There is need for office supplies and group resources that would help the groups advance
